Bandanas

The only thing we are currently tye-dying are bandanas; shirts and other stuff may end up on the dying table, but that is off in the future.  Our 21 inch by 21 inch bandanas are made of 100% cotton and pre-washed to help reduce shrinking.  Since they are all tyed and dyed by hand, no two bandanas are alike.  We have divided them into the following styles:

JUST BATTY
These bandanas are traditional tye-dyed bandanas with Austin's iconic Mexican Free Tail bats silk screened on one side and heat set to make for a smooth and comfortable wearing bandana.

SHIBORI BATS
Shibori is a Japanese method of dying using natural Indigo dyes and a block-resist method of dying.  Two wooden bat silhouettes are clamped to the folded bandana just prior to taking it's Indigo dye bath.   The dye only saturates the areas where there the bats are not, creating a negative image of the Free-Tail bat.

OLD SCHOOL
These are the old school bandanas that harken back to the Sixties.  There are a number of different patterns that emerge depending on how the bandana is folded and tied.  The colors selected at the time of dying depends of how the sun is shining.

TRADITIONAL SHIBORI
Similar to the Shibori Bats above, blocks of wood are used to 'resist' the natural Indigo dye, leaving geometric and other shapes mixed with shades of indigo.

COWBOY MANDALAS
Taking a pre-printed cowboy bandana, we tye-dye these like the old school bandanas. Good to have them with that Texas cowboy touch.
